Kandinsky landscape: Travelers

2018, Acrylic on canvas 39.7” x 39.7” $1600

If we were to imagine some sort of well-meaning travellers in search of signs of the smooth cohabitation between human and nonhuman beings, they would have to share the characteristics of both the human and the nonhuman, embody their hybrid fraternity. I have borrowed here some of Kandinsky’s signature figures, in order to give shape to the vertiginous vastness of landscapes we rarely pause to contemplate, as well as to their temporal fragility.

Nature used to equate timelessness, and also renewal. Yet today the icon of peaceful cows out to pasture has become a meme which nobody believes in any longer. Such idyllic symbols of the past are torn and dismembered by the awareness of what overpopulation of all sorts does to the breathing pace necessary to each and every kind of being.
