Fictional Attributes: Rufous-headed Hornbill holding his pet
A hornbill has chosen as a pet a fish who resembles him. In spite of the fact that the humphead may grow many orders of magnitude larger than the hornbill. Such is the saving grace fictional characters hold for us. Which brings me to state, as clearly as possible, that all the subjects of these works have first appealed to me because of their uncanny beauty. Stories are sometimes didactic, sometimes amusing and too often soul wrenching, yet the act of painting can elevate them all out of the grief in which most of reality is ensnared, and allow their effigies to transcend and maybe even soothe pain.
