Sanguine Pears is one of a recent series. What is it about pears? When I get stuck or need comfort, I circle back to them, never tiring of their curving lines and varied hues.

Red! So many things come to mind when I think of this word and so many varied hues, The depth of alizerine, the richness of crimson, the punch and pop of Cadmium… Then all the different shades, from the darkest red of the skin on a black cherry, to the subtle pinky red of a sunrise.

Red is passionate, and alarming or as dull as dried blood. I chose to paint red pears because it allowed me to play with this changeable, saucy, queen of a colour!

Sanguine Pears

Acrylic on birch panel, 10” x 10” $400

I have been making art for almost my whole life. My artist mother was a great influence and inspiration. Painting intuitively, I try and push the boundaries of what landscape and still life can be. Interpreting landscape has always been at the heart of my creative practice and my goal is to elicit a connection and bring awareness to the fragility of the planet.
